At the end of 2019, an estimated 1,148,200 persons aged 13 and older were living with HIV infection in the United States, including 207,600 (18.1%) persons whose infections had not been diagnosed, and globally an estimated 36.9 million people have HIV. More than 36.9 million people between 1981 and 2019 have died from the virus, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
